Updates, updates, updates...
Saturday, January 29, 2000 [07:19 PM PST]
This was primarily an update week; many of the apps got minor cosmetic updates (either resizable dialogs, storing the dialog position on the screen, or both). Also, AnalogX Capture 2.0 is available as well, which now supports the use of a customizable hot-key, user-specified filenames and paths, and more! It's available in the
Download/System area, so if you need to do screen captures ever, this is a great way to do them!
In other news, AnalogX SoftSubmit got the Editors Choice award from
Freeware World , as well as over at
Files32 ! So combined with the editors pick over on
WebAttack , it's probably safe to say that site admins like the program as much as developers - which is very cool!
Top 10,000 websites in the world!

That's right, AnalogX is now in the top 10,000 websites in the
WORLD, as reported by
Alexa ! Their calculation is based off the number of Alexa users that came to the site over the last 6 months; their installed base is something like 4.5 million, so they represent the largest sample set of any of the traffic rating places. Very cool, and I look forward to seeing how the site grows in 2000! Special thanks to everyone who visits the site - I couldn't have done it without you! :)

This weekend I was on a radio program called
Computer Corner , which was a blast... Very laid back format, and quite a bit of fun! If you're looking for something to listen to, they just put up a RealAudio version of the show (that's streamed); you can check it out
here .

This weeks release is entitled 'AnalogX Atomic TimeSync', which allows you to synchronize your computers clock using the atomic clocks at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, or any other Internet site that has an NTP server! It's super easy to use, can be configured to periodically set the system clock, shift the time by a user-specified amount, and it's even got an NTP server built right in! It's available for download in the
Download/Network area, so make sure your clock is accurately set!
In other news, AnalogX SimpleServer:WWW got awarded 5 cows over at
TuCows , which is their highest rating... It also was the Cool Tool of the Day over at
CoolTool this week!
Add search to your site...

There's a new update to AnalogX CGISearch - Version 3.0! That's right, the latest version of the search engine used on this very site is now available. So just what does this new version support? How about totally scriptable search returns, more sorting options, faster searching, and much more; so if you're running it already, you'll want to grab the new copy. It's available right now in the
Download/Network area, so grab it while supplies last! :)

AnalogX is welcoming the new year with a new look! That's right, in case you didn't notice, there's been a few slight changes to the look and feel of the website; hopefully to make it easier to read and navigate!
AnalogX MaxMem is rocking -
WebAttack gave it the Gold Editor's Choice award, so the site is off to a good start in surpassing last years total! :)

I know, I know, the last couple releases have been really pretty specialized, and not everyone who comes to AnalogX is necessarily some beanie wearing techno-geek - so how about something for everyone else? Well, I'm pleased to say this weeks release is something that's just as useful to a system administrator as it is to your grandma (assuming, of course, she's running Windows) - AnalogX MaxMem! What MaxMem basically does is ensure that a certain amount of physical memory is always available to your system - want some more? Simple, just click on the icon in the tray, and voila - you've just free'd up some memory! It can't free up ALL of your physical memory (Windows reserves some), but it can free up just about everything else! So what's this do for you? Simple, it means that all the applications you're running will run faster, plus Windows will run faster for longer periods of time (meaning less rebooting); this is because many programs fail to free up those valuable resources, and without a program like this, those resources are gone until the next reboot... Interested? I thought so! :) It's available right now in the
downloads area, System section (Wow! I haven't seen one of those in a while), so go grab your copy today!
Somebody out there doesn't like me...

Ok, I got a pretty big kick out of this; a website called TechSightings (a cool site that briefly reviews different sites on the net) reviewed AnalogX... If you'd like to check out what they had to say, check out this link (the links now gone, along with the site - alas, I outlived them), but the summary is that she feels that I'm way to egotistical; and I just thought I had a healthy self-image! Personally, I found her review pretty funny, and while it's clear she roamed all over the site, I don't think she really "got it", or perhaps I'm just not presenting things in the proper way, who knows. I was disappointed that she barely mentioned the software that's on the site, and only thinks that the site is "somewhat useful" - Ouch! Oh well... I must say that I did really enjoy their title for the review: "AnalogX Is A Shrine To Its Creator"... heheh, yeah, that's AnalogX!
